SmileStory Launches World’s First Free Braille File Plagiarism Checker
Visually Impaired Researchers Can Now Protect Academic Integrity

Supports BRF, BRL, PEF braille formats — Also free for all standard documents

SmileStory Inc. (CEO Sam-Heum Yeon) has launched ‘WIA Plagiarism Checker’, the world’s first free plagiarism detection service that supports braille file formats.

The service supports braille file formats commonly used by visually impaired researchers, including BRF (Braille Ready Format), BRL, and PEF (Portable Embosser Format). Standard document formats such as PDF, DOCX, HWP, and TXT are also supported free of charge, making the service accessible to everyone regardless of disability status.

Why Braille File Plagiarism Checking?

The number of visually impaired PhD holders and researchers continues to grow worldwide. They write and review papers using braille displays and braille embossers. However, existing plagiarism detection services do not support braille file formats, forcing visually impaired researchers to go through additional conversion processes.

WIA Plagiarism Checker automatically extracts text from uploaded braille files and performs plagiarism detection. In addition to web search-based similarity analysis, the service also supports integrated searches across academic databases including Semantic Scholar, OpenAlex, and CrossRef.

Comment from CEO Sam-Heum Yeon

“Visually impaired PhD researchers also have the right to verify their academic integrity. We made it possible to check braille files directly without separate conversion. Of course, non-disabled users can also use the service for free. This is a service for everyone.”
