The City of Ulsan announced on January 10 that it has finalized its 2026 Art Class Program, marking a full-scale expansion of public arts education aimed at making cultural participation accessible to citizens of all ages and experience levels. The program will be operated through the Ulsan Culture & Arts Center, the city’s central public arts institution.

The 2026 Art Class Program is structured into four categories—practical training, theory-based education, experiential learning, and special programs—and consists of a total of 25 courses. City officials estimate that approximately 2,300 participants will take part in 532 class sessions over the course of the year.

Regular practical courses in music and visual arts will run from March through November. Music offerings include vocal training (Class A and B), trumpet, flute, violin, piri, and daegeum, covering both Western and traditional Korean instruments. Visual arts courses include drawing, colored pencil illustration, seal engraving, calligraphy, literati painting, oil painting, and watercolor, with instruction designed to accommodate learners from beginner to advanced levels.

A new course titled Acrylic Landscape Painting has been added to the 2026 curriculum in response to growing public demand for accessible creative programs. The course will be offered as part of the regular practical training schedule.

Theory-based courses are also included in the program. Lectures such as The World of Music and Art Through the Ages are designed to enhance participants’ understanding of artistic works, styles, and historical contexts. In addition, experiential arts programs will be provided for children, offering age-appropriate cultural education through hands-on activities.

Short-term participation options have been expanded with the introduction of one-day classes. These intensive workshops will cover a range of artistic disciplines, and participation data will be used to assess whether the programs should be incorporated into the regular curriculum. A healing humanities lecture series is also scheduled to take place at the center’s small performance hall in September.

Through the 2026 Art Class Program, the Ulsan Culture & Arts Center aims to position arts education as a natural part of everyday life rather than an activity limited to specific groups. The initiative reflects the city’s broader policy direction toward expanding cultural welfare and strengthening community-based arts engagement.

Detailed schedules and application information for the 2026 Art Class Program will be available through the Ulsan Culture & Arts Center and its Exhibition and Education Team. The City of Ulsan stated that it plans to continue expanding access to cultural education while reinforcing the local arts ecosystem.
