The Ulsan Youth Philharmonic Orchestra will present its 47th Regular Concert, Swan Lake, at 5 p.m. on November 30 at the Ulsan Culture & Arts Center Grand Theater. The performance features a vibrant program of works by Rossini, Mozart, Walton, and Tchaikovsky, showcasing both the artistic depth and musical growth of the young orchestra members.
The concert opens with Rossini’s Overture to The Barber of Seville, celebrated for its lively rhythms and animated melodies. With its steadily building crescendos and the harmonious interplay between strings and winds, the overture highlights the orchestra’s youthful energy and expressive ensemble sound.

Following the opening, clarinetist Kim Geun-woo, selected through the orchestra’s annual audition process, will perform the first movement of Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto. Known for its warm and transparent tonal quality, the work allows Kim to demonstrate refined phrasing and expressive sensitivity that brings out the lyrical character of the clarinet.
The program continues with violist Hwang Hye-young performing the first movement of Walton’s Viola Concerto. This piece blends the viola’s deep, resonant timbre with modern harmonic language, and Hwang is expected to deepen the emotional impact of the music through her mature interpretation and rich tonal expression.
After intermission, the orchestra will present Tchaikovsky’s iconic Swan Lake Suite. Since its premiere in 1877, Swan Lake has been regarded as a masterpiece that elevated ballet music to a distinct art form through Tchaikovsky’s exceptional melodic and dramatic style.
The suite includes major movements such as Scene, Valse, Dance of the Little Swans, Czardas, Spanish Dance, and the Finale, weaving together themes of lyricism, tragedy, and hope in an emotionally compelling narrative arc.
An official from the Ulsan City Arts Group stated, “This concert is a meaningful opportunity for our young musicians to present the results of their year-long dedication. It will be a performance where the energy of youth harmonizes beautifully with the elegance of classical music.”
The concert is open to audiences aged 5 and older, with all seats priced at 1,000 KRW. Tickets may be reserved through the Ulsan Culture & Arts Center website or by calling 052-275-9623.
